MILWAUKEE CFU TAMBURITZANS

ORCHESTRA BACKGROUND AND SIGNUP

The Milwaukee CFU Tamburitzans exist to perpetuate and promote the music, dance, and culture of the Croatian people, typified by use of the tamburitza ("tamburica"), the national folk instrument of our Croatian heritage. The organization, founded in 1985, is dedicated solely to bringing this experience to our youth. We are very proud and dedicated to our Croatian heritage and our children.

Music, dance, costumes, fun-filled trips, and many lasting friendships are all the things we share.

In Milwaukee CFU, the age range is from 3^rd grade to 21 years old. No prior musical experience is necessary to join. We practice on Sunday nights at St. Augustine Croatian Catholic Church on 67^th & Rogers in West Allis.

The group currently has 24 orchestra members (16 Performers, 3 Intermediates, and 5 Beginners), 4 instructors, and 223 parents and booster members.

Each year, we participate in activities like:

• Ethnic Croatian dances - Fall and Spring
• Concert/dance in the Summer with a genuine tamburica group from Croatia
• Concert with our own members in the Spring
• 3-day National Junior Festival with 35 other groups from the U.S. and Canada. It rotates to a different location each July. In the past, the Festival has been held in Toronto (2010), Chicago (2009), Philadelphia (2008), Montreal (2007), Los Angeles (2006), Milwaukee (2005), Croatia (2004), Cincinnati (2003), Toronto (2002), Milwaukee (2001), Orlando - Disney World (2000), Detroit (1999), Washington, D.C. (1998), Croatia (1997), Toronto (1996), and Kansas City (1995).
• Picnics and performances throughout the year

A highlight of the past was in 1997, when we traveled to Croatia, the ancestral homeland of many of our members. There, we participated in a 2-week musical and cultural tour of the country, culminated by a 2-day Junior Festival in Zagreb, the capital.

Our group also travelled to Croatia in 2011 on a special musical and cultural tour of the country.
